Menopause, Breast Changes and Bra Fitting: What I Shared at The Rebalance Retreat

Held at the lovely Lakeside Café in Battle, the retreat brought together a range of specialists, each offering practical support and guidance to help attendees better understand the changes happening in their bodies and feel more confident navigating this stage of life.

Created and hosted by Lou and Lianne, the day felt warm, welcoming, and genuinely supportive from start to finish. It gave women space to learn, ask questions, share experiences, and realise they are far from alone.

A day focused on menopause support and wellbeing

Throughout the day, attendees heard from experts covering a wide range of topics connected to menopause and wellbeing, including:

  • hair and scalp health
  • skincare
  • reflexology
  • therapy
  • lymphatic drainage
  • movement
  • sexological wellbeing
  • nursing support
  • breast health and bra fitting

What stood out most was how connected all of these conversations were. Menopause is rarely just about hormones. It can affect sleep, stress, skin, confidence, intimacy, movement, body shape, and self-image. Having access to trusted professionals in different areas can make a real difference.

Why menopause can change the way your bra fits

My session focused on the breast changes that can happen during peri-menopause and menopause.

We talked about fluctuating hormones, changes in breast tissue, shifts in size and shape, increased sensitivity, and why bras that once felt comfortable can suddenly stop feeling right. For many women, this can be confusing and frustrating, especially when the change seems to happen without warning.

This is something I see regularly in my fitting room in Hastings. Since opening The BRAologist, I’ve found that 94% of clients are wearing the wrong bra size, and those fit issues often become more noticeable during mid-life.

Weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, changes in breast density, and simply wearing the same size for years can all affect comfort and support. A bra that used to work well may no longer give your body what it needs.

Learning to spot the signs of a poorly fitted bra

One of the highlights of the session was encouraging attendees to become “Bra Detectives” and assess their own bras.

Together, we looked at some of the common signs of poor fit, including:

  • bands riding up
  • straps digging in
  • cups no longer offering the support they should
  • discomfort that has gradually become accepted as normal

There were plenty of lightbulb moments around the room as people realised that many of the issues they had been putting up with were not something they simply had to live with. Often, they were signs that their bra was no longer right for their changing body.

Why conversations like this matter

What I loved most about the day was not just the expertise in the room, but the openness of the conversations.

Menopause is something so many women will experience, yet many still feel underprepared for the changes it brings. Events like The Rebalance Retreat create space for honest conversations, practical support, and shared experience in a way that feels reassuring rather than overwhelming.

That matters, because support during menopause is not one-size-fits-all. It may come from understanding your hormones better, speaking to a therapist, exploring movement, finding the right bra fitting, or simply talking to other women who understand what you are going through.

You do not have to navigate menopause alone

If there is one message I hope attendees took away from the day, it is this: the changes you are experiencing are real, they are common, and support is available.

Whether you need help understanding breast changes during menopause, finding a bra that fits your changing body, or simply feeling more comfortable and supported day to day, you do not have to figure it out alone.

A huge thank you to Lou and Lianne for inviting me to be part of such a special event, and to everyone who attended and shared so openly throughout the day.
